  • How do I pay with PayPal on eBay.com.au?

Paying for eBay items with PayPal is simple.

    1. When you purchase an item and click on the 'Pay Now' button, you'll go to the Checkout page.
    2. Select PayPal as your payment method and type in your PayPal password to log in and pay for your item straight away.
    3. You can pay using your PayPal account, funded by your credit card, debit card or bank account. Make sure you've added a funding source before you pay.
    4. If you have enough balance in your PayPal account, this will be used to make the payment - your PayPal balance is your default payment method.
  • What is buyer protection and how do I make a claim?

PayPal Buyer Protection is provided by PayPal to protect the purchases you make on eBay.com.au. If you pay with PayPal you can get protection of up to AU$20,000 if you have a problem with your transaction and it meets the eligibility criteria. If you wish to make a claim, please log in to your PayPal account and go to the Resolution Centre.

  • I have a dispute with a seller. What can I do?

If you're not able to resolve a disagreement directly with the seller, you can open a dispute, which must be done within 45 days of paying for your item with PayPal. To be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection you must escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days from the date the dispute was opened. To find out about the PayPal dispute resolution process please sign in to your PayPal account and go to the Resolution Centre.

  • What should I do if a seller discourages me from using PayPal, even though it's listed as an accepted payment method?

Sellers aren't allowed to discourage buyers from using any of the payment methods listed for an item. If a seller attempts to do this you should report the seller to eBay.

  • Does a seller's feedback score or percentage affect the level of Buyer Protection available?

No. Feedback scores and percentages do not affect the amount of protection available. PayPal Buyer Protection is available for eBay transactions paid for with PayPal.

  • How can I use the money in my PayPal balance?

PayPal is accepted by thousands of businesses worldwide and is the preferred payment method on eBay. But don't forget, you can use PayPal for more than just shopping. You can send money to anyone with a PayPal account or an email address. You can also choose to withdraw the money to your bank account (Since June 2010 there is a no longer a fee and no minimum amount for withdrawing funds to your bank account - it is free)

  • What is an eCheque and how does it work?

An eCheque is a non-instant payment. It's processed by the buyer's bank and transferred into the seller's PayPal account. This process usually takes up to 5 business days, depending on your bank. You can check the status of eCheque payments in your own PayPal account. We recommend that sellers wait until the funds clear into their PayPal account before posting any items.

eCheque payments can be sent when the buyer doesn't have sufficient funds in their PayPal balance to cover the entire transaction cost, and they don't have a back-up funding source, such as a credit or debit card.

To avoid these non instant transactions that can delay reception of your purchase, add a credit card to your PayPal account.

  • What payment methods are available when buying or selling vehicles or services?

Most listings on eBay.com.au must offer PayPal as a payment method, but there are a small number of exceptions. These listings can offer PayPal AND/OR pay on pick up:

Cars, Motorcycles, Aircraft, Boats, Caravans, Trailers, Commercial Trucks, Services, Real estate and Businesses for sale.

Even if the listing offers PayPal, Visa/MasterCard is also an option for buyers without a PayPal account. If you choose to pay on pick up, it's highly recommended you inspect the item or receive the service before making a payment.
