Ready to start with PayPal? The first thing you need to do is open a PayPal account and link your bank account, debit or credit cards. It's really easy to do, and takes just a few minutes. Once you're done, you can send or receive payments straight away.
After you register with PayPal, you'll be sent an email containing a link that will take you back to the PayPal website. You'll then be asked to enter your confirmation number. Your email address will be confirmed and you can start using you PayPal account.

We strongly recommend you verify your PayPal account. Just as banks need proof of your identity, PayPal's verification process helps know that you are the rightful owner of the bank account or debit account, credit account which you have linked. All newly created PayPal accounts come with limits to the amount of money you can send or withdraw.
Once you've set up your account, follow these steps to get your bank account verified:
- Log in to your PayPal account. Click on "Set Up Bank Funding" on the Account Overview page.
- When your bank details have been received, two small deposits each under A$1 will be put into your bank account. Wait up to 3-5 working days for this to happen.
- Log in to your PayPal account. Click on Complete Bank Set up on the Account Overview page in the To Do List section and enter the amounts exactly as they appear on your bank statement. Enter your bank details and review the bank funding agreement.
Here is how you get verified if you have added a credit card or debt card to your PayPal account
After you have linked your debit/ credit card to your PayPal account, we will charge an amount under A$2.00 to your debit/ credit card within 2 - 3 days. Check your debit/ credit card statement. Take note of a 4-digit code against this PayPal transaction and do the following:
- Log-in to www.paypal.com.au.
- Go to the ‘Account Overview’ page, select ‘Get Verified’, and then select ‘Confirm my debit or credit card’.
- Tell us the 4-digit PayPal code.
The amount charged to your debit/ credit card will be credited into your PayPal account within 24 hours following verification.
Your account status will then change to Verified and your sending limits will be lifted.
- When you purchase an item and click on the pay Now button, you will be redirected to the checkout page.
- Select PayPal as your payment method and type in your PayPal password to log in and make a payment.
- Choose how you pay on PayPal by selecting your credit card, debit card, bank account which you have linked or use any existing balance in your PayPal account.
- If there's a balance in your PayPal account, this will automatically be used to make the payment. Your PayPal balance is your default primary funding source.
To view, remove or add a bank account to fund your PayPal purchases:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Click My Account at the top of the page
- Hover your mouse over Profile at the top of the page
- Select Add or Edit Bank Account
- Select Add and complete the required details
To view, remove or add a credit card to fund your PayPal purchases:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Click My Account at the top of the page
- Hover your mouse over Profile at the top of the page
- Select Add or Edit Credit Card
- Click on Add Card and complete the details of your card
