List your items for FREE from 22 September

From 22 September 2011, eBay is trialing fee changes on eBay.com.au that will include free insertion fees on single quantity items in any listing format for sellers who don't have a Store, aren't PowerSellers or sellers registered as a business on eBay in participating categories**.

Rewarding our valued casual sellers

You've told eBay that you love FREE insertion fees and prefer to pay your fees only once your item has sold. So, from 22 September 2011, eBay is trialing fee changes that will make it easier for casual sellers to sell with zero up-front cost.

Offering:

  • Free to list in any format – Eligible sellers will be able to list up to 30 single quantity listings per month in any format with zero insertion fees (excludes PowerSellers, Stores and sellers registered as a business on eBay) using standard listing features in participating categories**
  • No up-front cost – You only pay as you sell your item
  • Free gallery image Saving you $0.59
  • One easy final value fee – To enable eBay to offer this up front saving and simplified fee format, eBay is re-balancing and simplifying fees by slightly increasing final value fees – from 5.25% to 7.9%. The final value fee will be capped at $49.95 for each of the first 30 listings per month

How does it work?

  • When creating up to 30 listings in the Create Your Listing form, the insertion fee will automatically calculate to 0 for listings using standard listing features. Additional features will still incur up front charges.
  • If you create more than 30 items in one month, insertion fees will apply to subsequent listings and there will be no cap on the 7.9% final value fee for all subsequent listings.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When do the fee changes take effect?

Changes to fees will take effect from 22 September 2011.

2. Will the new free insertion fee pricing be permanently available on eBay.com.au?

eBay is trialling these fee changes from 22 September this year. If these changes meet sellers’ needs, eBay will then look at making them permanent on eBay.com.au.

3. How do I list in multi-quantity from early September?

If you want to list in multi-quantity, you will need to Open an eBay Store, be a PowerSeller or be registered as a business on eBay.

4. I only want to list in multi-quantity for a one-off listing, or for a short period only (not on an ongoing basis), what should I do?

The cheapest way to do this is to open a Store for a short period of time (eg one month) for only $19.95 a month and then close the Store if you wish. You don’t need to worry about designing the look of the Store as you can easily choose from one of the pre-made layouts.

You'll pay just a single insertion fee for all fixed price (Buy It Now) listing durations, no matter how many items you're offering on that listing. Plus, the more you sell and the higher the price, the lower your final value fee and the greater the chances are of it appearing higher in search results.

Note: When you open a Store, the new casual seller pricing will no longer apply. Read more about the costs and benefits of opening a Store, as well as eBay’s Store cancellation process and policies.

5. Will I pay an insertion fee if I list more than 30 items in one month?

Yes. Existing listing fees per listing will apply if you list 31 or more items in one month.  Final value fees will be charged at the new 7.9% flat rate with no cap.

6. If I list an item and it doesn't sell, do I need to pay the insertion fee?

If you relist and it doesn’t sell, you still don’t have to pay an insertion fee – as long as the relisted item falls within the first 30 listings for that month.

7. I’m not sure if my account is registered as a business or part of the PowerSeller program. How can I find out?

To find out if you are part of the PowerSeller program, check the Seller Dashboard. Alternatively to check if your account is registered as a business on eBay, go to My eBay, and then under the Account tab click Personal Information.

8. Can sellers registered to eBay sites, other than eBay.com.au, take advantage of the 30 free listings per month?

You must be a registered eBay.com.au seller to take advantage of the 30 free listings per month. If you are a PowerSeller, Stores subscriber or registered as a business, you are not eligible for the 30 free listings.

*Existing fees per listing will apply thereafter.
