1. Easy flat final value fee on all listings**
- We’ve simplified the final value fee structure by replacing the tiered system with flat rates which only vary depending on which Store level you’re subscribed to. This makes it easier for you to predict and calculate your eBay fees
- At the same time, we introduced a cap so that final value fees for Store listings won’t exceed $100 per item.
2. Fewer insertion fee tiers
- The number of insertion fee tiers for auction-style formats has reduced from six down to three, making it easier for you to calculate your fees.
3. Simplified Store subscriptions
eBay is consolidating the Stores structure by retiring the Basic Store and moving from three Store levels to two – Featured and Anchor. This consolidation will occur in two phases:
Phase one: 16 May, 2012 – Fee changes
- Basic Store and Featured Store fees became the same
- The Basic Store monthly subscription fee increased from $19.95 to $24.95
- Basic Stores fixed price insertion fees** reduced by 50%
- The Featured Store subscription fee reduced by 75% from $99.95 to $24.95
- Featured Store fixed price insertion fees** reduced from 30c to 20c.
Current Basic Store subscribers should take advantage of additional Store functionality by moving from a Basic Store to a Featured Store. Here’s how
Phase two: Mid-late 2012 – Store consolidation
- The Basic Store offering will retire later this year and new subscribers will only be able to select either a Featured or Anchor Store
- Basic Store subscribers who have not already done so should migrate to the new Featured Store offering.
4. FREE pictures on all listings
The new fee structure is inclusive of 12 free pictures on every listing for all sellers. Supersize, Picture Pack and Gallery Plus are also free of charge to all sellers. Read more
The table below summarises the fee changes and how different Store sellers benefit from these changes.

1. When do these fee changes take effect?
Changes to fees took effect from 23:59:59 on 15 May 2012.
2. Why has eBay changed final value fees?
Many sellers told us that predicting their ‘cost of sale’ on eBay was made complex because of the tiered final value fee structure. Removing this complexity and applying a flat final value fee helps sellers forecast more accurately and efficiently.
3. Why have insertion fees changed?
Along with flat final value fees, a simpler insertion fee was something sellers have been asking for. The new fee structure makes it even easier to calculate your cost of sale.
4. Why is eBay removing the Basic Store?
The decision to retire the Basic Store is aimed at simplifying selling for sellers. The functionality and ‘extras’ available within Basic and Featured Stores are very similar, making fees the primary reason people choose one over the other. The new subscription fee for a Featured Store ($24.95 a month) offers a cheaper price for Featured Store owners and more functionality for Basic Store owners.
5. What do I need to do if I currently have a Basic or Featured Store?
If you have a Basic Store:
- Upgrade to the new Featured Store offering from 16 May 2012 and take advantage of additional features including:
- 10 additional customisable pages in your Store
- Advanced Store traffic reporting (includes visitor path analysis and bid and Buy It Now tracking).
- While fees changed on 16 May to align with new Featured Store fees, the Basic Store will not retire until later this year. Basic Store subscribers who have not already done so should migrate to the new Featured Store offering.
If you have a Featured Store:
You don’t need to make any changes, just enjoy the reduced subscription fees from 16 May. Fees will be pro-rated on your first invoice following the changes.
6. Which listing upgrade features are being removed and when is this happening?
The following listing upgrade features will be removed via a phased approach starting in May 2012:
- Bold
- Border
- Featured Plus
- Highlight
- Home Page Featured
- Value Pack
- Listing Designer
7. Why is eBay removing these listing upgrade features?
eBay is removing listing upgrade features that both buyers and sellers have told us add little value to a listing. The features that buyers in particular told us create a better buying experience, like Gallery and Supersize, are now available to sellers as FREE upgrades to encourage their use and improve seller success.
8. Why has eBay made changes to fees again so soon?
eBay is evolving and as communicated in 2011, simplifying and better aligning the fee structure to encourage better listing and selling practices is a major piece of that evolution. While we understand constant change can be difficult to manage as a business, this phased approach (with ample notice at each stage) is aimed at allowing businesses and sellers more time to slowly adapt their practices.
9. I’m a PowerSeller. Why can’t I get access to the 30 free listings per month?
The 30 free listings per month offer is aimed to encourage the non-store sellers who sell casually and sell only a small number of items each month to become more regular sellers. As a PowerSeller with large transaction volumes on eBay you should consider opening an eBay Store.
